A little visitor
Seattle Skyline
The closest big city to us is Seattle. Downtown is 20 miles East of Redmond. To get there, we have to drive across the longest floating bridge in the world. It is 7,578 feet long.
The tall spire is the Seattle Space Needle. It was built for the Seattle World’s Fair in 1962 and it is over 600 feet tall. On New Year’s Eve and the 4th of July there are wonderful fireworks shows shot from the top. You can take an elevator to the top. Besides seeing the whole city, you can also have lunch at the top.
Ferries
Several islands are also part of Seattle. To get to these islands, we drive our cars into very large ferry boats. When the boat ride ends at an island, we drive our cars out of the ferry and onto the road.
The Fremont Troll
The troll is Seattle’s fun little secret. He lives under the Aurora Street Bridge in a part of Seattle called Fremont. He is very tall and he likes to eat cars.
Redmond, Washington. Where we live.
Redmond is located between the Cascade Mountains and Puget Sound. We are surrounded by very tall evergreen trees. We have 34 parks and over 25 miles of trails for hiking and bicycling. Two very large companies have their headquarters here. They are Microsoft, the computer company and the maker of the X Box, and Nintendo, the maker of the Wii game machine.
The weather here is not as sunny as California, but it still is pleasant. We do get more rain and the temperatures are lower. Sometimes we get snow. This past winter there was so much snow once, that school was cancelled for a couple of days. Many snowmen were built during those 2 days.
We enjoyed Stanley’s visit with us. We hope you enjoy the photos.
